Being Thankful!
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because we have so much to be thankful for in life. Sure, the economy may be grim for the moment and the economist, the experts and even our financial planners may tell us that we don’t have a chance to get out of this financial rut. Or, we will have to work until we’re 75 or 80 years old. But, I disagree with all of them. I think we need to stop investing so much of our precious commodity (time) into people and things that are not helping us propel our career or lives. We get so hung up and focused on the negative things in today’s society. For many of us we forget what we capable of doing for ourselves. You know it amazes me that whatever someone says on TV we believe it! We don’t take the time to do our own research –our own due diligence to see if it’s fact or fiction. We just believe it and that’s it.
Well, I’ve learned while being on my own personal success journey that certain things we shouldn’t have to expose ourselves to such as the news or negative people. We are our best resource when it comes to empowerment! Recently, I interviewed a radio broadcaster from a successful radio show in the Washington, DC area and he said to me that, “We are responsible for motivating ourselves.” He said he doesn’t or shouldn’t have to need someone to motivate he should be able to do that himself and I thought that was so profane and true what he said. We should be able to dig deep within ourselves and find that flames within us that will inspire and motivate us.
Unfortunately, for many of us we allow the grim news, negative people and even our surroundings put us in a pessimistic state in our lives and for some of us it may take us a lifetime; before were able to bounce back and see what were capable of doing for ourselves.
So, how do we change this mentality how do we stop allowing the enemies of our past, the rocking chair of regrets interrupt the successes of tomorrow? Easy, it all starts with YOU! Begin to start your day off with a positive frame of mind everyday:
a) Start being gracious to see another day. For example, every morning when I wake-up at 4am “I thank God for waking me up”
b) Next, I go into my private room and I read something inspirational each day.
c) Then, I write my goals down in a journal where and how I want my business to grow and certain people I want to connect and network with in the future.
d) While I’m getting dressed for work. I listen to a replay show of Joel Osteen or I’ll listen to the weather channel music. I don’t watch the local news in the morning it’s too depressing.
e) My commute to work I listen to an inspirational CD by Willie Jolley or Bob Yates. Or, I’ll listen to the gospel group Mary-Mary.
Regardless, what I do I refuse to allow the media or people affect my commute and my spirit in the morning. Yes, I know many of us are going through some difficult times in your finances or health. But, if you’re able to get-up, sit-up, stand and walk then you’re already have a lot to be thankful today and everyday. The rest is up to YOU!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
